For the last three years we have been very successful at locating our festival at the site of the closed down KWK Katowice (Katowice coal mine) located in the very center of Katowice, the capitol city of the Upper Silesia Region of Poland. The area formerly used for industrial reasons have be transformed into a real mecca for all contemporary music lovers.
There, in between two beautifully preserved mine shafts Bartosz and Warszawa year after year festival stages appear to host the biggest names of modern musical avant-garde.
KWK Katowice, which operated between 1823 and 1999, is one of the best examples of the industrial relics in the entire Upper Silesia Region has now been given a second life as a music festival location attracting a huge audience.
The old production halls, warehouses, carpentries and the amazing pressure tower proved to be the dream location for showcasing anything from instrumental nu-jazz sound to dark sounds of minimal techno.
The location of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Festiwal is as important for the general feel of our festival as is the line up we put together every year.
