Rustie is a brand new adition to the Warp Records family - his musical collaboration with the label began in 2010 with his first two EP’s entitled Sunburst and Ultra Thizz. Rustie has also so far put out one LP - Glass Swords (2011). Hailing from Scotland Russell Whyte (as that’s Rustie’s real name) has made a name for himself and a gifted young producer with the already mentioned string of releases all anchored in the wonky-dubstep-glitchhop flavour. His natural born skills of joining together dubstep, grime, post-rock and detroit techno in a easy to digest combination led to Nicki Minaj, Kelis and The Big Pink all linning up for retouches of their original tracks. Before he became afilliated with Warp Records, Rustie made a grime/dubstep EP with Joker, entitled Play Doe/Tempered.
Rustie is really reluctant to talk about his music - as he consideres talking about a waste of time, when you could be making beats and concentating on maintaning the high artistic level of his current projects. Same goes for Glass Swords LP - it’s really just a compilation of Rustie’s previous, unpublished material, all lined up to form a 13 track album. Maybe so, but the storm it created and high fives it gathered among fans and music critics has been unbelivable!
