Many of you probably still remember some of the best concerts that took place during this year’s Tauron Nowa Muzyka Festival. With that in mind We’d like to invite all of you to the first of a series of events connected to the festival which will take place in 2012.
Those of you who know us and have been to the festival know we are constantly in search for the most interesting artists that we could invite to Poland in 2012. In the year to come we have made the decision to dedicate one of our festival stages to the renown artists of contemporary music. This will be the bands that have, during the last decade, once and for all changed the face of jazz and electronic avant-garde music. This stage will also be a tribute to Jazz Club Hipnoza - one of the coorganizers of the festival - comeemorating it’s 10 years of existance.
Expect only the best, and not only the classics. We can guarantee that just like Jazz Club Hipnoza has done over the years, we will surprise you all.
The first taster will come on February 19th, when the so well known Szyb Wilson Gallery - the birth place of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Festival and the location of Autechre and Crystal Castles live gigs - will host a true legend of nu-jazz, the composer who along with his band has back in the day created an entirely new music gender - James Swinscoe and The Cinematic Orchestra.
This band really needs no entroduction to any fan of contemporary music in general. It’s them who helped to make Ninja Tune the biggest record label of the new millenium, it’s them who managed to combine the jazz music sensitivity with dancefloor energy; finally it’s them who have recorded on of the best tracks of the last decade “Evolution” and by doing so brought back to the spotlight the wonderful Fontella Bass, known for recording with Art Ensamble of Chicago (the avant-garde pioneers of the 70’s).
It’s been 12 years since releasing their debut 12 inch single entitled “Diabolus”. During that time The Cinematic Orchestra has gone from a live band only know by few “insiders” of the latest names and sounds, to a band that’s regularly invited to play at the most important music festivals worldwide with a dedicated fanbase of milions worldwide.
Apart from the regular record releases, Swinscoe and his band also make soundtracks for movies. Their take on the classic “Man With A Movie Camera” by Dziga Wiertow and the Disney tale about flamingos “The Crimson Wing” are some of the most interesting film scores of the last decade.
We surely hope that the first Before Tauron Nowa Muzyka 2012, taking place 6 months before the actual festival, will allow all of You to get in the right mood while waiting for the summer events taking place in the former KWK Katowice Coal Mine.
You can try to imagine, who else we will invite to play at all of our festival stages if we kick it of with The Cinematic Orchestra...
The VII Tauron Nowa Muzyka Festival will take place in between the 23rd and 26th of August 2012 in Katowice at the New Silesian Museum (former KWK Katowice Coal Mine) grounds in Katowice, Poland.
