August is fast approaching, and with the summertime - the 7th edition of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Festival. Despite the fact that it’s now only 3 months before the festival and all the musical action surrounding it, we are still busy scheduling new and cutting edge artists from the leftfield, jazz, hip-hop and radical experiments for the main august weekend as well as our Before Tauron Nowa Muzyka 2012 cycle. As part of the series of Before 2012 parties taking place in various polish cities our guests have had the chance of seeing the legendary The Cinematic Orchestra, the true masters of jazz avant-garde - Medeski, Martin & Wood ad the classics of trip-hop, much loved british duo - Lamb.
This time we have something special and would like to invite all of our fans to take part in two live shows by one of the most interesting representatives of modern hip-hop - Theophilus London!
For a young and upcoming artists who for the time being has only got one album, the last year’d debut LP Timez Are Weird These Days, the list of musicians thrilled with his work is astonishing. The young Brooklyn based raper has already collaborated with the man behing Amy Winehouses’ success - Mark Ronson, played alongside Damon Albarn leader of the Gorillaz, and has also been invited to do a series of gigs together with the legende herself and queen of nu-soul, Erykah Badu. That’s impressive for a 25 year old raper who hit the jackpot with his daring live performance of a track Last Name London during the Cannes Film Festival.
Theophilus London’s key to success is constantly escaping any attempt of being boxed in inside one music gender and the ability to write great tracks with witty lyrics. The kind of songs that catch the ear of classic Prince tracks as well as even people loving the oldschool Kraftwerk music flavour. London digs deep into brit-pop as well as modern R&B and has grown fast to become the next Kanye West (as the press calls him) by showing that hip-hop still has a huge commercial potential which can be obtained by creative approach to it’s musical heritage. Add that to the very distinctive lyrics that have already been compared to the likes of Morrissey from The Smiths, the stage charisma that makes Theophilus look like the young Michael Jackson and you end up with a complete package and a musical phenomenon not only in the world of modern hip-hop but modern music in general.
If you want to feel like the high class Cannes audience and see Theophilus London’s live performance (singing not only the First Name London track) get down to Miasto Cypel in Warsaw on May 25th. This will be London’s first ever performance in Poland and he will be accompanied by his crazy funk band, and to Katowice (Jazz Club Hipnoza) the day after to see him again!
