GGD’s lead singer - Liz Bougatsos when asked in several press interviews, how she would describe her band’s music, has always compared it to a space ship that has just landed on Earth. To be honest the landing took place in 2001 somewhere around Manhattan, New York, when a group of five musicians, after years of rehearsals and other individual musical projects, have decided to finally do something together under one name - Gang Gang Dance!
The good times did not last for long. In 2002 the lead singer, Nathan Madoxx died killed by a lightning. The ramaining four, who at that time were, apart from Bougatsos, Brian degraw, Josh Diamond and Tim Dewit. It took them another 2 years to record and put out their debut album Revival of the Shittest and just a year later the God’s Monkey LP. Both LP’s have gathered some very flattering feedback from the press and fans alike. Everyone appreciated how GGD (in short) have travelled through the wast world of electronic music spicing it up a bit with a bit of Kate Bush flavours and Bougatsos’ distinctive vocals!
In 2007 came out their third studio album - Retina Riddim enriched with a DVD, but it wasn’t until their release that was to follow Retima Riddim, the Saint Dymphna prooved to be the breakthrough point in their career, also among polish listeners. The internet Screenagers Magazine has hailed GGD’s Saint Dymphna Album of The Year 2008, and so has the British FACT Mag.
The entire GGD Hype syndrom has also inflicted itself on other bands and musicians - Florence Welsh from Florence and the Machine has widely praised her respect and adoration for the band. This love has gone one step further, when Florence has decided to use one of the lines from GGD’s song House Jam in her own track Rabbit Heart.
Animal Collective have invited GGD to play at the festival they organize called All Tomorrow’s Partied in May 2011. GGD have also performed alongside Sonic Youth, Architecture In Helsinki, Battles, TV on the Radio and Massive Attack.
Gang Gang Dance’s latest official release is the Eye Contact LP from 2011!
This will be GGD first and only live performance in Poland!
