Chris Clark, as that is his full name and surname, is a British IDM producer and DJ. Chris describes his music as something which cannot be described with the usual set of words and terms.
No normal music gender fits what he’s making. Fact is that, for many years, Clark’s musical output has been the cornerstone for the entire Warp Records, which also is the home of other IDM legends: Squarepusher, Aphex Twin, Autechre or Boards of Canada.
Clark started his musical journey in 2001 with the release of his first official LP Clarence Park. At that time he was still lacking a bit of confidence and experience to creat somethinf trully unique and original. Same thing goes for his second release Empty the Bones of You. Everything was to change with the third album - Body Riddle. This was the record that paved the way for Clark and has given his listeners a clear signal about where his future sound was heading. 2006 (the year of Body Riddle) is when Chris Clark turned to just Clark. Thanks to this fact, it’s been easy to divide the two periods (the search for, and the aware of himself and his music artists that Clark has become).
As a producer, Clark has always intended to let his listeners inside the very middle of his music without the unnecessary introductions and build’ups. His favorite set of music tools have always been percussion samples placed next to each other to create interesting sound collages. Clark’s cover of So Malleable by Milanese made it’s way onto Warp20 Compilation and became an anthem for the entire Warp Record Label.
Last year Clark got engaged in a theatrical collaboration with Morgan Belenguere (choreographer) and Melanie Lane (dancer). Together the created a play entitled Tilted Fawn, played in several theaters in Germany. Clarks’ discography is completed by Totems Flare (from 2009) and the upcoming, not yet released Iradephic - due to drop in 2012
